Brian Holmes

Brian Holmes is the Port Meteorological Officer for Los Angeles/Long Beach, California.

Brian has 24 years of operational, supervisory, and managerial experience from his Naval contribution. While on active duty in the U.S. Navy, he spent sea tours in USS Cushing (DD 985), PCU/USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43), USS Rushmore (LSD 47), Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Group One embarked in USS Constellation (CV 64), USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) and shore tours in NRD Harrisburg/Pittsburgh (NRS Reading), Port Operations San Diego and Afloat Training Group Pacific.

Throughout Brian’s tenure in the Navy, he performed many duties which include; Division Officer, Leading Chief Petty Officer, Assistant Navigator, Command Equal Opportunity Advisor, Command Drug and Alcohol Advisor, Canvass Recruiter, Leading Quartermaster, Navigation Trainer, Assistant Scheduler and Fleet Support Officer.

As a Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer, he led and managed the preparing, observing, computating and reporting of nautical, astronomical, tidal and meteorological data. He presented that data to immediate, senior and executive staff and dissemenated that data to various Naval Fleets and aviation assets assigned to the ready group.

In the capacity of a canvass recruiter, he actively prospected for and represented the U.S. Navy to all potentially qualified applicants, covering 1000 square miles, 5 high schools and 3 communities. Brian influenced, trained and motivated a rotating customer pool of 50 people on a monthly basis. He managed a target market population tickler of 500 leads per quarter. Additionally, he supervised and administered testing processes for application and qualification of military entry.

Brian earned a Department of Labor Apprenticeship License as a Weather Observer and a Recruiter/ Counselor. Moreover, he earned an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Reading Area Community College in 1993, a Bachelor’s Degree in Financial Planning & Services from National University in 2001 and a Master of Art Degree in Management with a specialization in Organizational Leadership through National University in 2008.

During his spare moments, Brian enjoys playing basketball (more like watching now-a-day), slapping a few bones (dominoes), listening to music, and sharing time with family (Sherry, Randy, & Renaldo) and friends.

Ron Williams

Ron Williams

Ron Williams, an Upper Peninsula of Michigan native, has recently been assigned as the Port Meteorological Officer (PMO) for the Great lakes Region out of Duluth, Minnesota. Ron comes from a background of weather, with being a Meteorological Technician in Alaska. Since 2001, he has been assigned to Weather Service Offices (WSOs) Cold Bay and Valdez, which have given him extensive knowledge and experience in the various Marine weather services that the National Weather Service has to offer.

Ron is also a Marine Corps veteran that served on the USS Dubuque, Germantown, and Belleuwood during Far East deployments to Southeast Asia.

During his free time, Ron enjoys windsurfing the Great lakes and flying his 1959 Piper Pacer. He also participates in numerous endurance cycling and skiing events throughout the year
