Lori Evans is the new Voluntary Observing Ship Port Meteorological Offi cer for Baltimore, Maryland.

Lori comes to NOAA with over 18 years experience as an Air Force Weather Observer and Forecaster. While on active duty she was stationed at Dyess AFB, TX, FT Riley, KS, and FT Rucker, AL. She transferred to the Air Force Reserve in September of 2000 where she worked with the Hurricane Hunters at Keesler AFB, MS. She is currently an Air Force Reserve Weather Forecaster at Shaw AFB, SC.

On the civilian side Lori worked as a weather consultant for the Air Force at Egland AFB, FL where she launched RAOB Balloons used to sense and transmit Upper Air Weather Data back to be analyzed by a computer program. The final products from this program are used for Skew-T’s, Upper Air Charts and the various models used to forecast weather day to day. Her most recent job prior to coming on board with NOAA was as a contract weather observer for Control Systems Research at NAS Willow Grove, PA. Her responsibilities were to monitor the Automated Surface Weather Observing Station, Brief Pilots and base personnel on current and forecasted weather conditions, and disseminate weather ad- visories and warnings when severe weather could negatively impact base operations and equipment.

From 1999 to 2007 Lori worked to earn both her Bachelor’s and Masters from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS, where she studied both Geosciences and Operational Meteorology extensively. She plans to continue on to complete her PhD in Geosciences as well.

Lori spends her time off from the job with her two children, two cats and one dog. They stay busy hiking, camping, fishing and exploring.
